Full fly-by-wire flight controls help pilots achieve a smooth and stable flight, as well as reducing their physical exertion.
Instead of wrestling with heavy manual levers attached to hydraulic systems, pilots simply use a lightweight joystick attached to a flight computer.
This computer will carry out each manoeuvre expertly, as well as mitigating for loss of altitude by increasing power and pitch angle.

25% of the aircraft’s structural weight is made up of composites, resulting in an emission rate of 75g of CO2 per passenger kilometre (compliant with the industry’s increasingly stringent regulations).

Airbus has invested time and money in the flight deck design.
The most recent iterations are highly intuitive, enhancing both efficiency and situational awareness.
Updated flight deck design features include a main instrument panel featuring eight identical large interactive displays, and a heads-up display (HUD) system.
As such, the hydraulic equipment is smaller, lighter and contains less hydraulic fluid. This all helps to improve aircraft handling further.
Hydraulically-powered equipment onboard the A380 includes the flight control and servo-controlled actuator systems.
Engineers have added variable frequency generators to the A380, enabling engines to generate more power with less weight.
This addition also helps increase reliability and time-between-removals, while reducing maintenance costs and time spent on the ground.
Airbus’ Brake to Vacate technology enables pilots to decelerate rapidly yet safely during landing, and to engage the runway exit in optimum conditions.
This addition has proven so effective, it has now become standard kit on the A350 XWB.
